What Are License Plate Screws? Choose The Right Size

Replacing the screws of a license plate is something you will have to do at some point in your life. Why? Because with aging, the screws will get worn, or they might fall somewhere without you knowing it. So knowing the correct size of your license plate screws will help you a lot.

There is a wide variety of screws in the market, and if you do not know the correct size, you will become confused because each car brand requires different sizes and types of license plate screws. You will find screws like slotted truss, truss head, hex head, slotted hex, and many more.

What Size Are License Plate Screws

The standard size of license plate screws varies with each brand. You can also find some OEM (original equipment manufacturers) screws, but they are only made for specific car models.

For example, 1/4-14-3/4 inch is the size of a standard license plate screw. In this example, 1/4 refers to the diameter of the screw, 14 signifies the number of threads, and 3/4 tells you the length in inches.

The SNUG screws and Revolution Rustproof are the only standard-size screws that can fit in most vehicles (trucks and cars). They have a stainless steel body and slotted heads, so you only need a screwdriver to fix them. The sizes of both screws are 1/4 x 3/8 and 1/4 x 3/4, respectively.

Even though the SNUG and Revolution Rustproof screws can be used in most vehicles, some brands and car models require specific screws size. Let’s have a look at them.

 BMW

The standard size of a BMW screw is 10mm, it can vary somewhere between 8mm to 12mm, and if we talk about the perfect size, it would be 5Mx10mm. Prime Ave, made of stainless steel, is an example of such screws.

They are corrosion resistant, have an aesthetic appearance, and are durable, so they complement the BMW perfectly.

Ram Truck

1/4-14-3/4 inch is the standard size for many vehicles, and it’s the same for ram trucks. Ottospeed Rustproof screws fit very well with ram trucks. The hex head and standard size make them suitable for all vehicles with plastic/nylon retainers.

Honda

Whether a truck or car, Honda has a standard license plate screw size of 1/4 and 3/4 inches (diameter and length). Revolution steel screws are a universal fit for Honda models. They are suitable for trucks, cars, and even motorcycles.

Nissan

For Nissan, you can use the standard size screws like Revolution steel screws, which would fit well. Nissan license plate screws have slotted hex heads, so they are easy to fix.

Chevrolet

The perfect screw size for Chevrolet is 10mm, but you can use an 8mm or 12mm if 10mm is unavailable. Prime Ave screws can be used for Chevrolet, and there is no need to use washers. They have truss heads and are reasonably easy to fix.

Ford-F150

The standard screw size for Ford-F150 is 1/4-14-5/8 inches. SNUG fasteners are very suitable for these trucks.

Audi

The standard screw size for Audi is also 10mm, so you can use Prime Ave screws for it.
